Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A serious road accident occurred early this morning in Salt Lake, Kolkata, involving an Ola cab and a Public Works Department (PWD) vehicle, resulting in injuries to a female passenger. The incident took place at 5:50 AM when the Ola driver, traveling at an estimated speed of 80 km/h, lost control and crashed into the rear of a PWD vehicle after crossing Nikko Park. The passenger, a 22-year-old woman, was on her way home after finishing her night shift at a company in Sector 5.
The crash occurred when the driver, having accelerated after the road widened, overtook an IT professional on a motorcycle. The motorcyclist, traveling at around 60-65 km/h, observed the Ola sedan approaching from behind at a much higher speed. As the cars neared a red traffic signal, a PWD matador, traveling ahead of the Ola vehicle, applied its brakes. The driver of the Ola cab, unable to control the speed of the vehicle, collided with the rear of the PWD vehicle.
The impact caused various parts of the Ola vehicle to detach and scatter across the road, and the airbags inside the vehicle deployed. The passenger, who was sitting in the backseat, was thrown forward as a result of the collision. Police arrived at the scene promptly, and the injured woman was taken to a nearby hospital. The driver of the Ola cab was arrested at the scene, and the wrecked vehicle was removed by a recovery truck. Investigations are ongoing to assess the exact cause of the accident. The PWD vehicle was also cleared from the road without significant damage.
